About Mohnton and the Surrounding Area
Mohnton is nestled in a valley between two mountains. It was first settled by Benjamin Mohn, who built a home and a grist and saw mill in 1846. His young nephew, Samuel Mohn, came to work for him and opened a general store in a portion of the mill.
Samuel’s store was successful, prompting him to build a three-story frame store building, and the village came to be known as “Mohn’s Store.” Once the post office opened in 1857, the preferred name of the settlement became Mohnsville. When the borough was incorporated in 1907, the name was changed to Mohnton.
Mohnton is located within the award-winning Governor Mifflin School District, which operates three elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school, and one senior high school.
While enjoying the charming, small-town atmosphere of Mohnton, residents also appreciate the easy freeway access to Reading, Harrisburg, Allentown, and Philadelphia.
