About Lorane, PA
Lorane is a village on the Schuylkill River in Exeter Township, Berks County, PA, which has a population of about 4,200 residents. It is located four miles southeast of Reading, PA, and US Route 422 runs through town.
Lorane was originally known as Exeter Station, and a post office was established there in 1861. However, the village was first settled in the early 1700s and Mordecai Lincoln, the great-great-grandfather of President Abraham Lincoln, built a home on a thousand-acre farm in the narrow valley of Hiester Creek in Lorane in 1733.
The historic Daniel Boone Homestead, the birthplace of the American frontiersman, is also nearby in Exeter Township.
Lorane is served by the Exeter Township School District which operates three elementary schools, an intermediate school, a junior high school and a senior high school. They enjoy a graduation rate of 98%, and about 75% of their students go on to higher education.
