Kutztown is conveniently located between Reading and Allentown, PA, about 20 miles from either city. The borough is also about 70 miles from both Philadelphia and Harrisburg, and a two-hour drive from Baltimore, MD.
Located in the East Penn Valley, Kutztown was first settled by George (Coots) Kutz in 1755 and was originally called Cootstown. The borough was incorporated on April 7, 1815, and is the second oldest borough in Berks County after Reading.
The rustic beauty of the valley is bordered by the Blue Mountain and South Mountain ranges to the north and south (respectively), by Lehigh County to the east, and by Ontelaunee Creek (Maiden Creek) to the west.
Kutztown is home to many hiking trails, shops, wineries, and more. It’s also the home of the world-famous Kutztown Folk Festival, a nine-day festival held in June and July. Nearby Crystal Cave Park was discovered in 1871 and is considered “Pennsylvania’s Greatest Natural Wonder.” Visitors descend 125 feet below ground and explore the incredible stalactites, stalagmites and pillar formations in the caverns.
