Located in the Brandywine Valley, Chester Springs lies along major commuting routes, such as Route 30, the Route 202 corridor and the PA Turnpike, and is within 30 minutes of West Chester and King of Prussia and about one hour from Reading, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Allentown and Wilmington, DE.
Chester Springs is one of the most historically significant areas of Chester County. In the early 1700s, it was known as Yellow Springs and was the site of mineral springs that attracted the Native Lenni Lenape for its natural healing waters that flow through the area into Pickering Creek.
Yellow Springs quickly became a fashionable spa town for Colonial visitors who sought the restorative power of the waters. George Washington commissioned the first Revolutionary War hospital to be built in the village. It was the first military hospital in the nation’s history and served many victims of the brutal Valley Forge winter of 1777-78.
Chester Springs is also home to The Mill at Anselma, built in 1747 and considered the best-preserved example of a grain mill of its kind in the country. It is fully functional today, continues to mill flour and cornmeal for sale, and has been designated a National Historic Landmark.
Today, Chester Springs is one of the most prosperous areas of the county. Home buyers enjoy a vast selection of properties, from historic farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries, to contemporary townhomes, to sprawling estate homes, all surrounded by lush countryside and rambling rivers.
The majority of Chester Springs lies within the acclaimed Downingtown Area School District which operates ten elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools. Both DHS East and DHS West high schools have been ranked by Newsweek as two of the top high schools in America.
Some areas of Chester Springs are also in the Great Valley School District, Phoenixville Area School District, and Owen J. Roberts School District.
Residents of Chester Springs love the area’s walkable streets, green spaces, shopping, dining and recreation opportunities, as well as the proximity to the corporate centers of Eagleview, West Chester, Downingtown, King of Prussia, Malvern, and Great Valley, which is home to innovative companies such as Siemens, The Vanguard Group, IKON, Centocor (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson), and Microsoft.
