Discover Amity Gardens & Amity Township, PA
Swedish pioneers were the first European settlers in this area of Pennsylvania. In 1701, they settled on 10,000 acres of land granted them by William Penn along the Schuylkill River near Manatawny Creek.
Amity Township was established in 1744 and was the first township in what would eventually become Berks County. Its boundaries are almost identical to the boundaries of the original area known as Swedes’ tract. The township was named for the peaceful relationship, or amity, between the settlers and the local Native Americans.
Today, the well-established Amity Gardens neighborhood is situated in a country-like setting amid rolling farmland and meadows, and is only minutes away from shopping, restaurants, major highways, and area attractions. It is easily accessible to Route 422, PA-562, PA-662 and the new Limerick outlets, and King of Prussia is about 30 minutes away.
Amity Gardens is served by the acclaimed Daniel Boone Area School District, which operates Amity Elementary Center (K-5), Monocacy Elementary Center (K-2), Birdsboro Elementary Center (3-5), Daniel Boone Middle School (6-8), and Daniel Boone High School (9-12).
If you and your family enjoy the great outdoors, Amity Gardens is located within a 20-minute drive of William Penn State Forest, Welkinweir Gardens, and French Creek State Park, home to the warm-water Hopewell Lake and the cold-water Scotts Run Lake (where the state record smallmouth bass was caught).
French Creek State Park also surrounds the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, a restored rural “iron plantation” that was the largest domestic producer of iron at the time of the American Revolution and again during the American Civil War
Of course, there are also dozens of interesting things to do just 30 minutes away in Reading, PA, including Neag Planetarium, the largest and most popular planetarium between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Fightin’ Phils baseball, and the Santander Arena & Performing Arts Center, where you can enjoy Reading Royals ice hockey, Broadway shows and great music throughout the year.
