Discover Phoenixville, PA

Phoenixville is located in Chester County along the scenic Schuylkill River and French Creek and is about nine miles northwest of King of Prussia, 15 miles from Pottstown, 30 miles from Philadelphia, and 35 miles from Reading.

Originally called Manavon after its settlement in 1732, the borough was incorporated in 1849 and adopted the name Phoenixville for the town’s largest employer, the Phoenix Iron Company, which manufactured nails, rails, structural steel and weapons during the 19th century and early 20th century, including cannons for the Union Army during the American Civil War.

Today, Phoenixville has the largest national historic district in Chester County which includes Black Rock Bridge, a multi-span open-spandrel arch bridge that spans the Schuylkill River, the Oakes Reach span of the historic Schuylkill Canal, and many buildings with Victorian facades.

Phoenixville is part of the Phoenixville Area School District, which serves the residents of Phoenixville Borough, Schuylkill Township, and East Pikeland Township. It is ranked 34th out of Pennsylvania’s 497 school districts and operates three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.

In 2016, Phoenixville ranked third in “Best Towns in Pennsylvania for Young Families” by NerdWallet, Inc., and has also been listed as one of “10 Awesome Neighborhoods to Call Home” by Philadelphia Magazine.
